Abdulmuhsiy Abdurrahman

Sifu Abdulmuhsiy's infatuation with the Martial Arts began practicing Jude at the age of 5.  His formal training started in September 1967 in Shotokan Karate with his instructors, Russell Davis and Ed Kilcoyne.  Approximately six months later, he joined the Baltimore Karate Club under the instruction of Robert McPherson, Charles Greer and Santa Jones (aka Najib Amin).  In 1969 as a 6th Kyu, he took 1st place in Kumite and 2nd place in Kata at the Maryland Karate Association Championship.  In 1972, he won the Kumite division at the East Coast Karate Association Tournament, and in 1973 he took 2nd place in Kumite.   Two years later in 1975, he was promoted to Nidan.  From 1975 to 1977, he took the first place in Kumite at the East Coast Karate Association Tournament.

In 1983 he began training in Yang-Style Tai Chi Chuan, after sustaining a serious knee injury, under Dr. John Wang-Yun Chang. Three years later he became one the Assistant Instructors of the Tai-Chi Study Association in Baltimore, Maryland.  Between 1989  and 1996 he won eight-1st place positions in Push Hands, and seven-2nd place positions at several Chinese Martial Arts Tournaments held in various East Coast cities.  Sifu Abdulmuhsiy was honored as the "American Tai Chi Chuan Master of the Year, at the 3rd World Martial Arts League Hall of Fame in 2000, and been inducted each year since. This is a prestigious annual event in the Martial Arts arena.

Presently he is the Chinese Martial Arts Editor for Action Martial Arts Magazine, a nationally and internationally known publication, which features his column "The Chinese Connection".

As his next venture, the Sifu is considering taking his skill to Corporate America as a means of stress management.  Though there is a growing interest in using Tai Chi Chuan in private businesses, the obstacle of how to offer his services has baffled him.  This business, called Traditional Tai Chi Chuan, will initially be conducted by the Sifu himself.  If the business proves to be successful, he will hire skilled teachers to work with him.
